Simply Put, Showtime's "The Big C" is Amazing.

Holy crap. I just finished watching the pilot for The Big C and I frickin' frackin' love it. Laura Linney is so completely spot-on it's insane. I've always loved her, and thought she was a great actress, but I had no idea she could play comedy this well. Not even that, but it's the fact that she knows how to balance the drama and the comedy of this show so well, that I know for a fact that she has an Emmy nom coming her way next year.

The Big C is about a straight-laced, average, suburban mother, wife, and teacher (Laura Linney) who discovers she has cancer and only one year to live. Instead of opting for treatment, she decides to have the best year of her life. Watch as she deals with her adult-sized kid of a husband (brilliantly played by Oliver Platt), her mouthy, disobedient son, and her wacky, environmental activist brother. Also starring is Gabourey Sidibe, who plays her moody, overweight, and highly hilarious student that Linney takes a special liking to.

I really have to give it to Showtime for having such fantastic original programming, something that you don't see too often in this television day and age. Even better, many of the main characters on their shows are women, and that's something you practically never see. Between this, Dexter, and United States of Tara, Showtime has really made a huge fan out of me.

If you haven't seen The Big C already, you need to start watching now. The Big C airs Mondays at 10:30 on Showtime.
