Mulberry x Target Preview Sale on Gilt

Two months ago I posted about the upcoming Mulberry x Target collaboration, and today, Gilt had a special preview sale along with the Tucker x Target and John Derian x Target collaborations.

I was brimming with excitement over this sale because we would get a preview of the collection, which was slated for an October 10 release.

I dutifully logged into Gilt at 9am PST on the dot, hand perched on my mouse, ready to attack. But holy crap, the horror. The horror! It was just too early in the morning to see so much ugly. Quilted denim. Cheesy, oversized, studded heart charms. An absolute overuse of patent. Everything in the preview sale was patent. Now, Gilt advertised them as real patent leather, but for pricepoints within the $19.99-$49.99 range, I highly doubt that. I can't confirm that they are or aren't real leather, and I didn't want to chance it. I thought the crossbody was cute, and thought about purchasing it, and I even had a $10 credit, but I didn't want to pay $20 plus shipping for something that could potentially be faux patent (see, the cheap monster rears its ugly head yet again). Now if it is real patent then it's a real bargain, but who knows what these look like in real life. I'd rather wait for the official release and feel these bags up myself.

Of course these bags all sold out within 2 minutes (I kid you not), and I didn't even get a chance to peruse their descriptions until they were all snapped up into members' carts.

Time and time again I'm disappointed by these Target collabs (i.e. Loeffler Randall, Botkier, Jean Paul Gaultier, et cetera, et cetera), but I just keep coming back for more. There's a teeny tiny glimmer of hope that I'm still holding onto, and that's my wish for a bag similar to the Mulberry Alexa once this collection hits stores. Even better, some genuine leather goods.

RZ and her signature catchphrase, "I die" are pretty synonymous, so it's interesting to see this shoot focused on Rachel literally dying for fashion. Kanye West "Power" Video Premiere

Check out the video premiere of Kanye's "Power", directed by Marco Brambilla, who is best known for his photo-montage style, which is prominently featured in his video installation, "Civilization". True to his form, "Power" is more of a moving painting than it is a music video. With references to the Sistine Chapel and Kanye as the central figure, it's definitely provocative, and definitely Kanye's style.

Thoughts?

Frankly, it freaks me out because it has such eerie imagery, and combined with how slow everything is moving, it's altogether a trippy experience. Even more unsettling are the blatant references to the Illuminati in the video, undoubtedly intentional considering it's not a secret that Kanye has a fascination with the Illuminati. However, I will say this, it's definitely original and it's nothing I've ever seen before in a music video. What really ruined it for me was the tacky 'Power' flashing on the screen on the end. What was up with that? That's like some tacky PowerPoint presentation stuff right there. We all know Kanye is a perfectionist, so we can't chalk it up to poor editing at the end.

Robyn & Snoop Dogg = Match Made in Heaven

Body Talk Part II is insane. I fucking love Robyn. This woman can do no wrong. This is officially the best year for music. Robyn releases an album in three parts over a course of a year, Kanye is finally dropping a new album, and rumors of a Kings of Leon album this October? Yes, please.

Now the only thing I love more than Robyn is Robyn and Snoop together. Throw in some old school pop beats and you get: "You Should Know Better (than to fuck with me) - Robyn feat. Snoop Dogg". Stream below:

I thought Inception was great. I thought the cinematography was excellent, and Chris Nolan really outdid himself. Now with all that said, he must have been a huge fan of Scrooge McDuck, wouldn't you say?

California Prop 8 Overturned!

Today is a great day in L.A. not only because the weather treating us right, but more importantly because U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker overturned California's ballot decision that prohibited same-sex marriages from taking place. Judge Walker deemed that prop 8 violated the equal protection and due process clauses, and that it failed the rational basis test, a judicial standard of review which analyzes whether or not a particular statute had a rational basis, as opposed to arbitrary, in being enacted.

Today is a big victory for same-sex couples and their supporters! Judge Walker has, however, handed down a stay, which the opposition must respond to by Friday, August 6th. Let's just see how far they can get with an appeal though, because failing the rational basis test doesn't allow much room for argument in their favor!

I guess this means Brad and Angelina can finally get married, eh?
