Ellen announced earlier today via her Twitter and website that she had officially resigned as American Idol judge. She claimed it was ultimately too difficult for her to judge young talent, and her shooting schedule became too taxing. Ellen's original statement:
A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on "Idol" and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.Well, we didn't have to wait long to see who would be replacing Ellen. Nikki Finke reported today that J.Lo would be replacing Ellen as Idol judge. This is an extremely intelligent, strategic move for Lopez, considering the revival of her musical career has been far from successful (I mean, we all remember that horrendous performance of that godawful song, Louboutins, at the AMAs, right?). Idol will definitely keep her in the public eye, considering Americans keep coming back to watch this season after season. Personally, I tuned out after season one. Kelly Clarkson was enough for me. How many have there been now? 8? 12? 50? Before we know it, this will turn into Real World and we'll end up with just about million seasons.
