CONGRATULATIONS to Kathyrn Bigelow for becoming the first woman to win the Director's Guild of America award for a feature film. What a hugely inspirational and amazing feat. A well deserved win for sure--it just goes to show that women are just as capable of directing gritty and captivating war dramas such as The Hurt Locker. The Hurt Locker has received a huge amount of critical success and this win is especially crucial considering the Oscars coming up March 7. It'll be interesting to see how this will all play out against James Cameron's Avatar. Keep in mind he recently won the Golden Globes for Best Director and Best Picture. Another interesting tidbit: Cameron is Bigelow's ex-husband and encouraged her to abandon the project she had been working on prior to The Hurt Locker and essentially take a leap of faith to direct the war drama.
Tune in on February 2 as Anne Hathaway announces Oscar nominations in the early morning and of course, the actual Academy Awards presentation on March 7. Can't wait.
